The day finished with two heart health talks. Sandy Saccone, a cardiology patient, spoke about her experience getting bypass surgery and the importance of regular checkups.
Samala Swamy, M.D. talked about the risk factors for heart disease, living a heart-healthy lifestyle, and the warning signs of a heart attack and stroke. Women of all ages – and their family members – attended the event.
“This event and the previous Men’s Health Forum are aimed at raising awareness about disease prevention and treatment,” said Borough President Oddo. “Many health issues, like heart disease, can be prevented by living a healthier lifestyle. My hope is for Staten Islanders to learn more about the risk factors for these issues and take control of their health.”
