"We have to take our anti-littering message to as wide an audience of Staten Islanders as possible,” said Borough President Oddo. “What better way to reach Staten Islanders than by tapping into the creativity of Staten Islanders. In this era of smart phones and YouTube, I think lots of Staten Islanders will be willing to demonstrate their creativity and help us with our anti-littering campaign. Anyone with a smartphone or camera can join in and show off their community spirit, while showing, in a pithy way, why litter is wrong and hurts our community.”
To enter the contest, Staten Islanders are encouraged to post their videos on the Borough President’s official Twitter (Twitter.com/StatenIslUSA) page with the hashtag #silitterPSA or email the link or file for their submission to Jennifer Sammartino at jsammartino@statenislandusa.com.
Oddo said, “We are not necessarily looking for the most professionally produced video, rather we are looking for the most creative one that gets the message across. Litter is wrong, and if we, as a community, stopped engaging in it our communities will be cleaner and we will all enjoy a greater quality of life.”
After receiving all submissions, Oddo and his staff will pick their five favorites and then utilize social media to pick the winner.
