The focal point of the initiative is a virtual one. A new portal on the Borough President’s web site, www.statenislandusa.com, will feature tools to measure fitness activity and lists free events for beginner, moderate, and expert fitness levels available to all on Staten Island. The activities range from high impact adventure races for those who are already physically fit, to lower impact nature walks for those who are just getting into a fitness routine, and everything in between.
Borough President Oddo said, “We truly are an ‘Island in Motion.’ There are activities happening throughout our borough that provide Staten Islanders with the opportunity to become active, have fun, and get healthier. Often times, however, people are not aware of what’s happening. If you don’t like to run, there is yoga or kayaking, or biking, or walking, or other fitness related activities available. Whatever your interest, there are probably activities occurring on Staten Island, many of them free. So, I encourage Staten Islanders to take advantage of some of the opportunities happening around them. My office is committed to helping Staten Islanders find those activities that interest them, and our new web portal will help do just that.”
The tools are available at www.statenislandusa.com/islandinmotion
The Borough President also encourages organizations that want to list free events on the site or share their resources as a link to contact the office. Please email submissions to DMarciuliano@statenislandusa.com with the subject line “Island in Motion.”
