“I have allocated $1.5 million from my FY 2015 capital budget to construct a new world class cross country trail in Clove Lake. It will rival Van Cortland Park in the Bronx - sorry to my friend Borough President Ruben Diaz,” Oddo quipped.
“On April 17, 2013, I had my first meeting with Witt Halle and Bill Allert about this dream they had to construct a world class cross country trail here at Clove Lake. I was immediately supportive of the proposal,” Oddo said.
Among the attendees at the press conference were Assemblyman Michael Cusick- a runner, Adena Long, Parks’ Borough Commissioner, and many representatives from Staten Island’s vibrant running community.
“A goal of my office has been to get Staten Islanders more active and healthier to help combat some of the poor health indicators in our borough. Investing in new recreational options that will help Staten Islanders become healthier and more fit is a wise investment,” he said.
The very first Staten Island Borough President 5K Trail Classic was held on the trail on August 2. Congratulations to the winners and to all who participated.
