COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT & SPECIAL PROJECTS
Responsibilities to include providing support to the Communications staff; assisting with special event planning and implementation of events; and performing other miscellaneous tasks as assigned. This position is ideal for students pursuing a degree in communications, public relations, or journalism.
VIDEO
Responsibilities to include developing ideas for video with the Comms Team, recording video, editing and creating videos as assigned. Also includes shooting photos for Instagram. This position is ideal for students pursuing a degree in communications, public relations, filmmaking, marketing, or journalism.
TOURISM & CULTURAL AFFAIRS
Responsibilities to include providing support to the staff; researching items to add to our website; engaging with external agencies and community members; monitoring the VISIT Staten Island social media accounts and website analytics; gathering and organizing visitor data obtained from the St. George Ferry Terminal kiosk; taking inventory of press articles related to tourism and cultural affairs on Staten Island; and performing other miscellaneous tasks as assigned to support the office’s mission of making tourism a major economic driver on the island. This position is ideal for students pursuing a degree in communications, hospitality, the arts, or public relations.
KIOSK (TOURISM)
The Staten Island Borough President’s internship program of the St. George Staten Island Ferry Terminal kiosk helps students develop and gain communication, marketing, and tourism skills to be later used in a professional environment after graduation. These students are responsible for answering questions at the kiosk on scheduled days from 10a.m. – 5 p.m. (hours will vary). Students will learn written, verbal and organizational skills as a result of this program. This position is ideal for students pursuing a degree in communications, hospitality, the arts, or public relations.
ACCOUNTING
Ideal for someone who is detail oriented and interested in finance and accounting. Hours are flexible (between Monday and Friday, 9 am to 5 pm) with a minimum 3 days per week, and may require a few late days depending on project deadlines. Responsibilities to include maintaining and updating various accounting databases; working within New York City’s Financial Management System to accurately and efficiently process payments; assisting in the procurement process; reconciling bank accounts; proofreading payments and vouchers for accuracy; communicating with vendors; and performing other miscellaneous tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail; be motivated and willing to meet and balance various deadlines; have skills working with Microsoft Excel and Access, experience with Quickbooks is a plus; be able to learn quickly in a challenging environment; have good organizational skills; have the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently; have good communication skills. The position is ideal for students pursuing a degree in finance or accounting.
EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Ideal for a creative individual who is detail oriented and interested in local government for an exciting opportunity with our team. Hours are flexible (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm) but might require to attend school visits and offsite meeting which will be scheduled in advance. The ideal individual will have solid writing, communications, and interpersonal skills; a self-starter, have the ability to apply and synthesize information into an action plan, possess some familiarity with public and/or parochial school environments. The ideal individual will assist our Director of Education by performing the following duties:
-Accompany the Director of Education on school visits
-Routine follow up calls to schools as needed
-Review constituent calls and return with resolution
-Prepare excel schedule, distribution lists, etc.

POLICY DEPARTMENT
The Policy Office has a variety of initiatives already under way and is always looking to develop new ideas. The Policy Office is seeking individuals to help execute current initiatives and to help devise and implement novel ideas. You will be afforded a chance to learn how to communicate economic research to a policymaking audience and will gain real-world experience in dealing with the challenges facing the implementation of economic research. Ideal for graduate-level candidates in economics, statistics, political science, public administration, and in other relevant disciplines. An ideal data intern would have a strong quantitative background in fields related to economics or statistics. The candidate should have some familiarity with modern literature relevant to local government (i.e. research on topics like urbanization, health, education, crime, and local labor markets) and with relevant datasets that can be applied to local policy problems.
