Honors & Remembrances

Postcards 9/11 Ceremony

Each year, Borough President James Oddo hosts the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony to remember the Staten Islanders we lost 19 years ago and to pay tribute to those First Responders who have subsequently died from their service at Ground Zero.  The program takes place annually on Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m.

Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, we presented a video of select memorials around the Island.
You can view that here: www.statenislandusa.com/MemorialDay2020

Veteran's Day

On Veteran's Day 2020, a special video honoring Staten Island Veterans was presented on our website. The content was submitted by Veterans themselves and their families. Please visit our Thank A Veteran page to watch the video.

The Albert V. Maniscalco Award

The Albert V. Maniscalco Community Service Award was established in 1986 in honor of the ninth borough president. The award celebrates the civic-mindedness and tireless energy of individuals or organizations that work to help community members in need and to make Staten Island a better place.

Winners of the award have been:
  • 2019: Rolling Thunder
  • 2018: Monsignor Peter G. Finn
  • 2017: Dee Vandenburg
  • 2016: William A. Morris Jr.
  • 2015: Teddy Atlas Foundation

The Patrick Daly Award

This award goes to two educators who exemplify the values of the fallen principal, who was gunned down 27 years ago in Red Hook, Brooklyn while searching for a student who had left the school building. The award was established shortly after Mr. Daly’s death and was revived in 2017 to honor his legacy of service to the community, his steadfast commitment to his students, and his leadership.

Winners of the award are:
  • 2019: John DiMartino and Renee Mazza
  • 2018: Ingrid Ebanks and John Fodera
  • 2017: Paul Martuccio and Wilson Mohr
