Borough President Molinaro lauds Governor’s “common sense” budget; encourages Staten Islanders to support plan

Praises non-partisan approach to improving economy and quality of life

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today praised Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s executive budget for its common sense approach to tackling our State’s problems, and encouraged Borough residents to support the 2012 Budget proposals.

“In my 40 years of government service, I have never seen a speech with more common-sense than Governor Cuomo’s address yesterday,” Molinaro said. “Over the last two years, the Governor has put together a plan that will set the stage for an economic rebirth in New York, with no sacrifice on behalf of the residents of this State.”

“The failures of yesterday caused the problems of today,” Molinaro said.  “The economic tailspin we have experienced in the past few years has created a sense of urgency. Governor Cuomo recognized this urgency, has said what had to be said, and will do what needs to be done. We finally have a governor who is addressing problems on a non-partisan basis.  He is truly representing the people of New York.”

“Now, it is time for ‘we the people’ to do our part to help New York regain its status as an economically sound state and a great place to live and work.  I will be sending an e-mail out to my constituents to urge them to support Governor Cuomo’s budget plans.  I want Staten Islanders to know that the 4% increase in education funding will make our public schools even better, and that pension reform plans for future government workers will ensure that New York does not go bankrupt by paying out high pensions to future retirees.  The budget reform plans will not harm anyone, but will benefit everyone, especially the middle class,” Molinaro said.

“Sadly, residents have been fleeing our great state in droves over the last decade.  That may change now.  I strongly believe the Governor has turned a stampede out of New York into a Kentucky Derby of entrepreneurial spirit, and I look forward to the changes ahead,” Molinaro concluded.
