Borough President Molinaro kicks off Islandwide spring cleaning campaign
Asks residents to call his Helpline to report public property needing clean-up
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today urged Islanders to “welcome Spring with a clean-up” by calling his Helpline to report public property such as bus stops, roadsides and City-owned lots needing the attention of the Borough President’s “Clean Team.”
Molinaro has made graffiti and litter removal a top priority of his administration, and today’s “Spring Cleaning” kickoff is a continuation of his Clean Team’s longtime, effective program that has cleared hundreds of public areas across the Island, including parks, beaches, and cemeteries.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the success of my Clean Team,” said Molinaro. “I see the difference as I travel around our Borough. Working together, we are maintaining Staten Island’s reputation as the cleanest and greenest Borough in New York City.”
Molinaro complimented the Clean Team -- comprised of Borough Hall staffers and Arthur Kill Correctional Facility inmates – for clearing trash from more than 20 sites Islandwide so far this Spring.
“Many sites were not only eyesores, but hazardous as well,” said Molinaro. “Some bus stop sidewalks get so choked by weeds and tall grass that people are forced to wait in the street.”
Molinaro announced that the Clean Team will be dispatched to other big jobs in the coming weeks that were recommended by Community Boards and Borough Hall staffers, “but we also want Islanders to call us about any public property that needs our attention. Let’s welcome Spring with a clean-up!”
To request trash clean-ups or graffiti removal, contact the Borough President’s Helpline at (718) 816-2000. The sites will be recorded and listed for future clean-ups.
