Borough President Molinaro encourages college-bound students to apply to General Electric/Reagan Foundation scholarship program

Annually awards $10,000 renewable scholarships to up to 20 students

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today encouraged Staten Island’s college-bound students to apply to the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program, which annually rewards up to 20 scholars with $10,000 renewable scholarships – up to $40,000 per recipient.

In honor of the legacy and character of President Reagan during the centennial of his birth, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and General Electric have launched this national program to reward students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship.

“What better way to honor our nation’s 40th president than by encouraging our promising young leaders with financial assistance to pursue higher education?” Molinaro said. “Reagan was one of the greatest presidents this country ever had. He believed in the American people, believed in their strength, believed in what they could do. With this scholarship, candidates will use the formative experiences of their youth to lead, serve and pursue a life of progress, both individually and for their communities.”

Applications for the inaugural class of GE-Reagan Foundation Scholars will be accepted until March 18th. During the application process, candidates must be nominated by a community leader, such as a high school principal, elected official, or nonprofit executive, and each leader may nominate only one applicant.

“I would like to ask any college-bound Staten Islanders who apply to notify me through my website, www.StatenIslandUSA.com,” said Molinaro, adding that a link to the application, additional information, and eligibility requirements is available on the website, as well as at: www.ReaganFoundation.org/GE-RFScholarships.aspx.
