B.P. Molinaro names new senior citizens liaison from within ranks of staff

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Facing budget shortfalls, Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that he has appointed his longtime Director of Contracts & Procurement and Veterans Affairs Advisor Lee Covino to the post of Senior Citizens Liaison.

Covino, 58, who has served on the cabinets of former Borough President Guy V. Molinari and Borough President Molinaro, will also continue to serve in his current positions. Before joining the Molinari Administration in 1990, Covino worked as a program officer for the New York City Department for the Aging.

“Due to staff retirements and the current economic climate, I’m relying on my staff to do more with less,” said Molinaro. “Seniors are important to me, and Lee has vast experience in aging services on Staten Island through his work at DFTA.”

Prior to his career in City government, Covino worked as a case manager at two local adult homes, and as a branch manager for a private home care service on Staten Island. From 1985 to 1991, he served as an appointee to the New York State Council on Homecare Services under Governor Mario Cuomo. In 2007, he received a professional service award from the Staten Island Interagency Council for Aging.
