Borough President Molinaro announces new appointee to NYC Industrial Development Agency
Former Assemblyman Matthew Mirones to replace board member Steven Devereaux
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that he has designated former Assemblyman Matthew Mirones to serve on the board of directors of the New York City Industrial Development Agency.
Mirones will replace Steven Devereaux, who stepped down after two years of service on the board, and will serve out the remainder of his term, which expires in September 2011.
The appointment also makes Mirones a member of the Capital Resource Corporation, which together with the IDA, is administered by the New York City Economic Development Corporation. The IDA and CRC authorize tax exempt financing for industrial companies and not-for-profit organizations that are expanding or improving services in the city.
“Staten Island knows it will be well-represented on the IDA by former Assemblyman Matthew Mirones,” said Molinaro. “A self-made businessman, Matt will bring vision, enthusiasm and insight to the board as it helps companies undertake capital expansions and become more competitive by locating in the city or by expanding their existing operations.”
Mirones said, “I am very honored and privileged to be appointed by Borough President Molinaro and Mayor Bloomberg to serve on the IDA board of directors. In this economic climate, it is more important than ever that we do everything in our power to promote business growth, and to assist in the retention of existing jobs and the creation and attraction of new employment opportunities.”
Mirones was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2002 and represented the East Shore and parts of Brooklyn before retiring in 2006. He was previously President and CEO of Arimed Orthotics and Prosthetics, a firm specializing in orthopedic rehabilitation, which has offices in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.
