B.P. Molinaro and Comptroller DiNapoli to promote the collection of unclaimed funds
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced that he, in cooperation with the Office of New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, has secured a booth at next Tuesday’s SI Conference to help promote the collection of unclaimed funds currently held by the State of New York.
“New York State currently has billions of dollars in unclaimed funds, some of which may belong to Staten Islanders,” Molinaro said. “Searching for any unclaimed funds in your name is easy to do, and could possibly result in a nice surprise in the form of unexpected cash,” Molinaro said.
The booth, operated by Comptroller DiNapoli’s staff, will be set up so that conference attendees may search the database for any unclaimed funds belonging to them. If funds are located, a simple form is all that is required for the funds to be returned, free of charge.
"We are holding $9 billion in our Office of Unclaimed Funds and some of that money may belong to you," DiNapoli said, noting that generally one out of 10 people who search the Unclaimed Funds database find forgotten funds. "We want to reunite those funds with their rightful owners. It's your money, New York, come and get it."
The SI Conference, which will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn, provides a forum for business and civic leaders from Staten Island and the greater region to discuss the current economic climate on Staten Island and devise strategies to continually improve our local economy.
“I urge those who will be in attendance at the Conference to take advantage of this opportunity and to spread the word to their colleagues, relatives, and friends,” Molinaro said. “I would also like to thank Comptroller DiNapoli and his staff for their proactive efforts to help the public recover what is rightfully theirs,” Molinaro concluded.
