B.P. Molinaro launches new initiative to thank Islanders for flying the flag on Veterans Day – and every day
Will send certificates of commendation to residences for proud display of patriotism
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced a new initiative to thank Islanders for their display of patriotism – his office will send a letter of appreciation and certificate of commendation to residences that fly the American flag.
“Shortly after 9/11 there was a proliferation of American flags displayed on homes, on cars, and elsewhere,” said Molinaro. “Staten Islanders unapologetically demonstrated their patriotism by proudly flying the American flag
“On Veterans Day, what better way to honor these courageous men and women than by again flying the flag on our homes to show that we’re proud to be Americans?” asked Molinaro. “I myself display the flag on my car and outside my home to show my love and devotion to this great nation.”
Molinaro -- who created “Freedom Circle” in Ocean Breeze and collects worn flags in a flag box outside Borough Hall for proper disposal on Flag Day -- said he and his staff will take note of residences flying the flag during their travels around the Borough and send a letter of appreciation and a certificate of commendation to those homes.
“The American flag is recognized throughout the world as a symbol of our freedom, prosperity, and humanitarianism,” said Molinaro. “On Veterans Day -- and every day -- let’s honor their bravery and sacrifices by proudly displaying the American flag.”
