B.P. Molinaro and FDNY Commissioner Cassano unveil City’s first Mobile Training Vehicle

Molinaro allocated $273,000 for state-of-the-art apparatus

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro and Fire          Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano today unveiled a newly-purchased Mobile Training Vehicle (MTV) for the FDNY at a press conference outside Borough Hall.

Borough President Molinaro allocated $273,000 from his capital budget to the FDNY for the state-of-the-art vehicle, which will expand and improve firefighter search-and-rescue training.

“I am pleased to give the Fire Department the support and equipment they need and deserve,” said Molinaro. “This state-of-the-art vehicle will provide our firefighters with the continued, rigorous training they require to serve the city’s fastest-growing Borough. The addition of this vehicle to the Department’s fleet will have a direct impact on the people it serves by protecting and saving lives.”

Staten Island fire companies will be the first in the city to have this self-contained, custom-built training vehicle that is equipped with a generator and an HVAC system that delivers essential, practical skills training directly to firehouses and reduces the amount of time firefighters will be placed out of service for drills on Randall’s Island.

Commissioner Cassano said, “We’re very grateful to Borough President Molinaro for this fantastic training vehicle that allows us to reach firefighters throughout not only Staten Island, but the whole city. The Borough President clearly shares our commitment to keeping the public and firefighters safe. There’s no substitute for training in this job and that’s a large part of what makes this the greatest Fire Department in the world.”

The Borough President and Commissioner Cassano were joined at the announcement by Chief of Department Edward Kilduff, Borough Commander Mike Marrone, and firefighters who demonstrated how training is performed on the vehicle.
