Local foundations will make matching donations for fundraising
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro announced a major humanitarian fundraising effort to aid the victims of the deadly earthquake in central Italy.
“As Borough President of a community with more Italian-Americans than any other Congressional District in the country, I would like to express my deepest sympathy to those affected by the disaster in Italy,” said Molinaro. “I would ask Staten Islanders to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers.”
Molinaro announced that local foundations will make matching donations to the Italian Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund.
Molinaro was joined for the announcement by Congressman Michael McMahon, City Councilmen James Oddo, Ken Mitchell, and Vincent Ignizio, along with other elected officials, local foundation representatives and Italian cultural organizations.
Those wishing to send a donation to the relief effort should make the check payable to the “NY Grand Lodge Foundation” (of Order Sons of Italy in America), earmarked “Italian Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund.” Checks should be mailed to the Borough President’s Office, Room 120, 10 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, New York 10301.
