B.P. Molinaro provides $858,487 to 16 senior programs
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced funding of $858,487 to 16 Staten Island-based senior programs as part of his “Borough Needs” allocations for Fiscal Year 2009.
“I am extremely proud that, despite fiscal shortfalls, I am able to maintain funding for these vital programs,” said Molinaro. “As the only Borough in the City to experience an increase in its elderly population over the last decade, preserving these critical services for our 70,000 seniors is of paramount importance.
“Earlier this year, the funding for five of these programs was placed in jeopardy,” Molinaro added. “However, after testifying at the Department for the Aging’s annual public hearing and at a City Council hearing, the funds were re-instated. I would like to thank Mayor Bloomberg for his assistance in maintaining these vital programs that our seniors need and deserve.”
