Borough President Molinaro announces new appointee to Community Education Council

Retired principal Rhonda Whitfield will start a new term beginning July 1st

      STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced his appointment of former P.S. 44 principal Rhonda Whitfield as his new representative on the District 31 Community Education Council (CEC).  

      Ms. Whitfield, of West Brighton, will start a new term beginning July 1st. 

      “The children of Staten Island will be well served by Ms. Whitfield,” said Molinaro. “She brings a world of experience from her 34 years as an educator on Staten Island. She has been a principal, a supervisor and a teacher on many education levels. She will bring enthusiasm and experience to the CEC. I have every confidence she will be a great asset in this position.” 

      Ms. Whitfield, who retired from the Department of Education last August, said, “I am very pleased that Borough President Molinaro has chosen me to be a member of the Community Education Council. This opportunity is the fulfillment of a dream come true. It is my hope that my experience and knowledge of the educational system will help the parents, students, and educators on Staten Island. It is our job as educators, parents, and people to change the world and make it a better place for our children.”

      Ms. Whitfield holds two masters degrees, in elementary education and special education, as well as a bachelors degree in speech education and a six-year certificate in administration. She was the principal of P.S. 44 in Mariners Harbor for six years, an assistant principal at I.S. 49 in Stapleton, and a supervisor and teacher at various schools in Staten Island and District 23.
