B.P. Molinaro encourages motorists to use E-Zpass or carpool to beat V-Z Bridge $10 cash toll

S.I. resident E-Zpass toll $4.98; resident carpool (3 or more occupants) $2.33

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today reminded Staten Island motorists that they can beat the $10 cash toll on the Verrazano Bridge by applying for an E-ZPass tag or Car Pool Ticket Book for deep resident discounts.

Last Sunday, the cash toll for the Verrazano Bridge rose from $9 to $10. However, the toll for Staten Island Resident E-ZPass holders is $4.98, and for resident carpoolers (3 or more occupants) is $2.33.

“Staten Island motorists with E-ZPass save 61% on the $10 toll, and carpoolers save 77%,” said Molinaro. “It’s outrageous that we’re the only Borough whose residents have no choice but to pay to drive home, and I’ve gone on record strongly opposing the Port Authority and MTA’s fare and toll hikes. However, since the $10 cash toll on the Verrazano is now in effect, I want to remind motorists that they can beat it by using E-ZPass or carpool tickets to take advantage of discounted rates.”

E-ZPass applications are available at the toll booth cash lanes, or visit www.ezpassny.com.

Staten Island Resident Car Pool Ticket Book order forms are available online at  www.mta.info. Car pool tickets are valid only at the Verrazano Bridge for passenger vehicles displaying a valid Staten Island Resident Sticker with three or more occupants. For additional information call (646) 252-7513.
