Where’s Rudolph? B.P. Molinaro kicks off holiday season by presenting Sanitation Department with new vehicle
Molinaro allocates $127,000 for double-duty haulster truck for Staten Island’s fleet
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today kicked off the holiday season by presenting the Department of Sanitation with a new Haulster vehicle at a press conference in front of Borough Hall
Molinaro allocated $127,000 in capital funding for the double-duty vehicle, which can carry rock salt in the winter and can be used as a small dump truck for litter patrols during the remainder of the year.
“Our Sanitation Department is preparing for another winter that could bring heavy snowstorms, and I am pleased to assist ‘New York’s Strongest’ by adding this new Haulster vehicle to Staten Island’s fleet,” said Molinaro. “Our Borough has more than 1,500 miles of road, including 744 miles of side streets. Helping Sanitation fulfill their duties makes our roads more passable and safer. And when the Haulster truck is not salting and plowing streets, it’s picking up litter and maintaining Staten Island’s reputation as the cleanest borough in New York City.”
Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty said, “Borough President Molinaro has once again come through for Staten Island. As we enter the snow season, we at Sanitation hope that it will be a mild one so that inconveniences to the public can be held to a minimum. But this new multi-purpose piece of equipment purchased for us by the Borough President will help us to salt and plow smaller streets, as well as crosswalks and bus stops to make life a little easier for Islanders.”
At the press conference, Molinaro turned over the Haulster keys to Commissioner Doherty and Borough Chief Daniel Ambrose.
