Borough President Molinaro presents FDNY with new fire safety education vehicle

$230,000 Allocation Also Includes Search & Personal Escape Mobile Training Vehicle

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Borough President James P. Molinaro today presented the FDNY with a new Fire Safety Education Vehicle at a press conference in front of Borough Hall.

At the request of the FDNY, Molinaro has provided $230,000 from his FY07 capital budget toward the purchase of the Fire Safety Education Vehicle ($75,000), and a Firefighter Search and Personal Escape Mobile Training Vehicle ($155,000).

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and I am pleased to make this sound investment in the safety of our residents and firefighters,” said Molinaro. “The Fire Safety Education Vehicle will help bring the life-saving message of fire safety and prevention to the children and seniors of Staten Island, while the Mobile Training Vehicle  provides firefighters with valuable search and rescue training at local fire stations up to six times per year.  Every day we should thank our Fire Department for their bravery and diligence in protecting the lives of our residents. I am pleased that I am able to assist in providing the FDNY with the resources it needs to help protect us.”

Chief Haring said, “The Fire Safety Education Sprinter and Mobile Training vehicles will enhance FDNY capability and service to Staten Island. Within the Fire Department, when there is a need for innovation and vision for new projects and equipment, we come to Jim Molinaro. The Sprinter will enable the Staten Island Borough Command to bring fire safety directly into our communities, our schools and centers. The Training Vehicle will provide on-site training for our units, while enabling them to remain in their response areas to provide fire and emergency protection for Staten Island. I would like to express the gratitude of a grateful Fire Department to Borough President Molinaro for his continued and generous support.”
