Molinaro announces good news for public schools
Allocates $490,000 in Funding for Capital Improvements Across the Borough
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Borough President James P. Molinaro today announced the allocation of $490,000 in funding for capital improvements for six elementary and intermediate public schools across the Borough.
“The best investment we can make in Staten Island’s future is with our schoolchildren,” said Molinaro. “In dire need, these schools requested upgrades for their facilities, and I am very pleased to help provide a safer and more attractive learning environment for our students. Improving building conditions can only enhance our students’ performance and allow them to concentrate on the more important things, such as their studies.”
The Borough President has directed his FY06 capital funding as follows:
> $200,000 to P.S. 42 Annex (Eltingville) for a new Public Address System and Telephone System
> $70,000 to P.S. 29 (Castleton Corners) for Fireproof Doors in hallways and stairwells, and new Classroom Doors
> $100,000 to P.S. 20 (Port Richmond) for new Auditorium Seats and to create additional Storage Space
> $45,000 to I.S. 34 (Tottenville) to upgrade Gymnasium, including new Bleachers
> $35,000 to P.S. 5 (Huguenot) to replace Windows in the Mini-Building
> $40,000 to P.S. 53 (Bay Terrace) to upgrade Cafeteria, including new Lighting
“Children make up 25 percent of our population, but they are 100 percent of our future,” Molinaro said. “Each year, it is my distinct pleasure to provide educational resources to help our students achieve their fullest potential and meet the challenges of the 21st Century.”
