B. P. Molinaro Praises the Arrest of Graffiti Vandals
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- Borough President James P. Molinaro today expressed strong praise for the actions of the New York City Police Department and the Citywide Vandals Task Force which resulted in the arrest of two young graffiti vandals this past weekend on the South Shore.
“I wish to commend the NYPD and the Task Force for their response to the crimes committed by these miscreants on the South Shore,” Molinaro said. “Nothing makes me angrier than quality-of-life crimes that force Staten Island homeowners to spend their hard-earned money to remove graffiti scrawls from their property or repair damage caused by thoughtless criminals.”
Molinaro is urging the victims of graffiti vandalism to contact the New York State Crime Victims Board at (800-247-8035) or www.cvb.state.ny.us to determine whether or not they are eligible to receive compensation for the damages to their property.
“I would also like to express a plea to the justice system to punish the offenders swiftly and appropriately,” Molinaro said. “I sincerely hope that the judges refrain from giving them a lenient community service assignment that entails little more than leaning on a broom at some little league watching the game.” Molinaro said.
“I hope that Staten Islanders are aware of the efforts of the Task Force and the NYPD. I encourage Borough residents to take pride in the cleanliness and appearance of our community. I am calling upon all Staten Islanders to play an active role in helping to keep our Borough graffiti-free,” Molinaro concluded.
